Why Dental Implants?
Usually made of titanium, a dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. When both the root and the tooth are damaged the best permanent replacement option is a dental implant. Dental implants can support a single crown, a bridge or even a full-arch denture. We will wait until you are fully recovered from your dental implant placement before placing the crown as a final touch. With care, dental implants typically take 3 to 6 months from start to finish.
So how does the dental implant procedure work?
Assessing your oral health
Before anything else, we will first examine your mouth and teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. Candidates must have healthy gums and must be old enough that their jawbone has stopped growing. Your jawbone must also be healthy and robust enough to support an implant. If you don’t think you’re a candidate, don’t worry. We will come up with a plan to improve your overall oral health or provide you with solutions which are better suited for you.
Placing the Implant
Having an implant placed can be a stressful experience for some. Rest assured, your comfort is a high priority. We use top of the line tools and modern techniques with a focus on quick and gentle dentistry and a fast recovery.
Relaxation aids and sedation are administered for your comfort and safety. A post will be surgically implanted into your jaw and topped with a special connector called an abutment.
You will be sent home in the care of a family member or friend with aftercare instructions to ensure the fastest possible recovery.
Over the next 3 to 6 months, your jawbone will heal and fuse to the implant post.
Once you’ve completely healed you’ll undergo a second much less invasive procedure. A crown, bridge or denture made to feel and look like your natural teeth will be attached to your implant. We’ll make any final touches while you’re in the chair and you’ll leave with a fully complete, comfortable and beautiful restoration.
